The Story
After doing a bit of traveling for a while, I was curious and interested in being able to visualize my travels over time. I tried to the use the built-in Apple Photo Map feature for this, but it was completely dissapointing in terms of functionality. I wanted to see where I'd been over time, how I'd moved through the world, and be able to do more interesting things with my location data. I quickly realized that every single photo I have taken has location data. Even better, I was sitting on a gold mine of 75,000 photos in my iCloud. I decided to create a little application to be able to play with and visualize the data - here we are!

The Data
48,000 points of location data extracted from photos, each with its own timestamp and precise coordinates. Every point is a moment, a place, a piece of my life!

The Maps
- Time Cluster: Each point on this map represents a photo I personally took from a phone or device of mine. It is broken into clusters representing the number of photos taken in that location, until you zoom in and the clusters dissapear, revealing the indivual photo dots.
- Lines: Lines are drawn between each data point to visualize the movement between places over time. You can really track the movements over time here. This feature isn't perfect, but it's fun!
